Our Wood Privacy Fence Lumber

Most of the privacy fences we are requested to build are with incense or western red cedar. Other special lumbers include pine, pressure treated, bamboo or the new composite materials. Many of our fences incorporate both cedar and pressure treated, due to different advantages provided by each lumber. Most commonly this is done by using pressure treated posts when building a cedar fence. The reason being is the affordability of pressure treated posts over the cedar, and because setting cedar posts in concrete can cause rot the base of the post. Some solutions are to coat the base of the post with a resin moisture barrier, or to use a thick tape or roof sealer. This should be done to 1" above the top of the concrete. We also prefer to install wood fences using the Postmaster system: it is a heavy-wall galvanized post that is concealed into the fence with no visible posts. A great feature for eliminating wood rot and subterranean termites.

Our western red cedar lumber provides natural beauty and durability that lends itself well to any backyard project. It has a natural resistance to rot and decay and comes with a limited 20 year manufacturer's warranty. Cedar lumber varies in color from red, golden brown, light blond and dark chocolate. A major advantage of cedar over pine is the dimensional stability, meaning it is less likely to warp or change shape. While the application of water sealant is not necessary, it will extend the life and original beauty of the wood.
